Ode To A Garlic Knot
The whisper of sweet nothings
from the grocery store display,
A six-pack of baked garlic knots
has romanced me today.
Twisted rolls of toasted bread
lined a shiny bakery tin,
Promising a taste orgasm
and dashing hopes of being thin.
I hesitate a moment-
contemplate a choice so bad,
Then I shoved them in my cart
It was a treat that I must have.
I brought them home and placed them
on the countertop for later,
but minutes passed and I succumb
to the garlic butter flavor.
I opened up the package
and much to my delight,
the garlic knots were soaked in butter
(and I'm assuming it's not "light")
The first bite shocks me to my core
a fat girl's tasty dream -
but seconds into chewing
my tongue begins to scream!
You see, in all my binging glory
I neglected to chew right.
I bit my tongue with such a force
the pain blinded me with fright.
Garlic season seared my wound
and I ran to find a glass
I filled it quick with tap water
and drank it down so fast.
Imagine my surprise
when my stomach began to churn
I had sucked down a cup of warm water
trying to quench the garlic burn.
I stood in angst and glared
at that shiny bakery tin.
I tossed it in the trash and
returned to the quest of finding thin.
